...exploring how people shape the world's forests

Community forest management and REDD+: project summary

This project explores the relationship between community forestry and REDD+ to identify the most important contextual, policy, and institutional factors that lead to successful terrestrial carbon storage in forest commons. The study is important in the context of the rapidly proliferating discourses on REDD+ and the increasing importance of achieving multiple benefits from forests.

Data-collection for the project includes a comprehensive literature review to assess the possibilities for linking CFM and REDD+; in-country semi-structured interviews with experts; and the collection of social, ecological and institutional data using IFRI methods from 28 sites across the three countries.
