Thailand – RECOFTC
RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests. has been the primary institution for promoting community forestry in Asia and the Pacific since its inception in 1987. By building the capacity of the various stakeholders – from communities to governments to non-governmental organizations and the private sector – RECOFTC has worked in partnership to improve the policies, institutions and practices of community forestry in the region. RECOFTC’s headquarters and Thailand country program are located in Bangkok, but has country offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, and Viet Nam. RECOFTC’s four main thematic programs (Securing Community Forestry; Enhancing Livelihoods and Markets; People Forests and Climate Change; and Transforming Forest Conflicts) aim to realize community forestry’s potential. They are built upon RECOFTC’s Guiding Principles of strong and clear rights, good governance, and fair benefits for forest dwellers.
RECOFTC joined the IFRI network as a CRC in October 2012 to use IFRI research as part of its long-term monitoring and evaluation program of community forest communities in each of its focal countries. As of February 2016, RECOFTC has established eight IFRI sites (Cambodia- 3; Myanmar-2; Vietnam-2; Indonesia-1). Each IFRI site that RECOFTC establishes will be revisited every five years.
