Jennifer Zavaleta is interested in interdisciplinary research, especially the intersection of human and natural systems. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Michigan working with Arun Agrawal. Her research will focus on climate adaptation, especially in regard to water resources and management. As a Fulbright Scholar in Chile, she worked on a number of projects related to forestry including one on the social impacts of forestry expansion and another on watershed management to balance the needs of the city of Valdivia and the campesinos that harvest it for fuelwood. Before this she was a consultant hired to conduct a literature review on lesser prairie-chickens and she is continuing to publish literature related to lesser prairie-chicken management. Her unique background with a Bachelors of Art in Government and Masters of Science in Wildlife Sciences has given her unique perspectives on how to conduct good science and understand how research can and should directly influence policy.
