Guest speaker Dr Soesilo discusses the effects of climate change on Indonesia
Deputy Senior Minister to the Coordinating Ministry for People’s Welfare of the Republic of Indonesia Dr Indroyono Soesilo visited the School of Natural Resources and Environment on Oct 17, 2012 to give an engaging lecture about the Indonesia’s role in both mitigating and adapting to climate change.
By 2030, Indonesia may lose up to 2,000 islands due to rising sea levels caused by climate change. These islands are mostly baseline markers that help to mark territory and so if they are lost, the territorial markings are lost. The President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has committed to reducing Indonesia’s greenhouse gas emissions by 26% by 2020 or by 41% with international assistance.
