IFRI mourns the passing of founder and Nobel Laureate Elinor Ostrom

Lin’s passing away leaves us in anguish. Words are inadequate – as usual. How to express her impact? How to describe IFRI’s loss? What can we say about our grief?

“Time is the natural resource in shortest supply,” Lin wrote recently. Her departure shocks us into recognizing how right she was, how precious this resource is.

Lin founded IFRI. She taught us all to think differently about the present, past, and future of community and resources – forest commons among them.
By her life and in her work, Lin showed what and how much is possible within the limits we endure. What is without limit is how much we will miss her.
